A certain opulence of the French Rococo Revival is represented by the lavish late 19th-century chandelier, which was created from spelter with an antiqued, silvery-gray patina. Five ornate arms, coupled with several uneven acanthus leaves, many scrolls, and abundant floral flourishes, all swirl, as one central milk glass diffuser frames each element, carefully softening light into a consistently warm, ambient glow. The detailed metalwork on a chain from that era descriptively displays the large affection people then possessed for nature-based asymmetry and dramatic style. The darkened patina improves its storied charm; this patina might come from age, oxidation, or purposeful finishing. In addition to the patina, its design suggests the full grandeur of the gaslight era. Will be shipped without candles. One arm has been previously damaged, but it has been restored.
