Jasperware Wedgwood Ashtray

Elegant antique Wedgwood piece, shaped light blue  Jasper. Wonderful matte finish, giving the pieces a sleek and reserved pallor. Raised motif in a classical scene decorating the pieces in the center and around the rims, emblematic of the Wedgwood style.

First developed by the prodigious Josiah Wedgwood in the 1770s, Jasperware is a type of blue stoneware characterized by a trademark unglazed matte “biscuit” finish, and over the centuries has been produced in a number of different colors. The most notable and distinctive is a light blue that has become known as Wedgwood Blue.
