Splendid sculpture from the ART DECO period: “LA LECTURE” – signed: MENNEVILLE – subjects in art cast iron (variety of high quality spelter) – the head, hands and book are original – on an elaborate base in Belgian marble (black).

We are immediately fascinated by the great beauty of this young elegant woman – sublime face with a sweet, enigmatic smile barely sketched – a letter in her hands: pleasant news from a loved one, or a love letter?…. nicely accompanied by two lovely deer.

A magnificent creation, with a very elegant presence, sumptuous and spectacular from all angles – a sincere, moving testimony to a bygone era. Not to be let slip away!

MENNEVILLE: late 19th / early 20th century – great French artist-sculptor of the ART DECO period – highly sought after. Comparable to UGO CIPRIANI: Florence August 30, 1897 / Paris June 1960. Famous artist of Italian origin who settled in France in 1935/37 to work there until his death.
